Chevy Chase Trust proudly sponsored the third annual 2020 Women on Boards National Conversation on Board Diversity, on November 20, 2014 at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. According to the 2014 Gender Diversity Index, 60% of graduates in the U.S. are female, and women make up 52.7% of the workforce as well as 73% of consumer purchasing decisions in the U.S. However, women hold only 17.7% of board seats in Fortune 1,000 companies, up from 16.6%. In Greater Washington D.C., they hold 17.9% of the board seats of Fortune 1,000 companies, up from 16.7 % last year, which is an increase of 5 women. The goal of 2020 Women on Boards is to have at least 20 percent female board membership by 2020. This year’s event featured The Hon. Mary K. Bush, who urged women to step forward to make the U.S. a global leader in advancing women to the boardroom. Eighteen similar gatherings were held across the country on the same date.
