As a long-time Signature Theatre board member and prior Chair of the Board, Chevy Chase Trust Managing Director Deb Gandy was proud to attend the annual Sondheim Awards Gala on Monday, March 4th, 2019. Sponsored by Chevy Chase Trust, this beautiful event is held annually at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, D.C., and honors those who have contributed to the works of Stephen Sondheim, the canon of American musical theater.

This year, Signature Theatre was thrilled to honor six-time Tony Award Winner, Audra McDonald. The gala benefits Signature’s artistic, education, and community outreach programs. Signature Theatre also honored Congressman Don Beyer and Mrs. Megan Beyer with the inaugural J. Watkins Distinguished Service Award. Gandy stated, “The award honors community leaders who have made an extraordinary impact in the Greater Washington, D.C., community through their passion and advocacy for the arts and arts education. J. was a beloved Signature board member, an important part of the Sondheim Gala leadership team, a tremendous ambassador for Signature and the arts in our community and, most importantly, a dear personal friend who is deeply missed.”
